The Forgotten Ones

Disney has come out with numerous movies in its time. We all remember the big ones like Cinderella, Finding Nemo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King, etc. However there are some great movies that people just don’t remember.

1.) Davy Crocket – He lived in “the greenest state in the land of the free” and “killed him a bear when he was only three,” he’s “Davy, Davy Crocket, king of the wild frontier.” How could we forget the gorgeous Fess Parker fighting river pirates, joining congress, fighting indians, and befriending them. I loved to watch this movie as a child. It’s a great American history lesson as well as an exciting adventure.
2.) Bedknobs and Broomsticks – This movie follows three children who have been sent away during the war. They go to live with a woman who is less than excited to be taking them in. The children despise her at first, but little do they know she is not the boring middle aged woman she seems to be. She is a witch in training and through a series of accidents, she and the children find themselves going on a journey traveling between worlds by way of a magic bed knob.
3.) Swiss Family Robinson – What would you do if you were stranded on an island? This family is forced to answer that question when their ship crashes and they’re the only ones left alive. Forced to make it in the middle of a jungle, the family builds a dream tree house and survives as best they can. This movie has wild animals, a love story, pirates, and an adorable elephant all mixed together for one interesting answer to the question, “what would you do if you were stranded on an island?”
4.) The Apple Dumpling Gang – I’ll admit that old western movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. However my favorite isn’t a Jon Wayne or Clint Eastwood, no it’s a Disney movie that stars Don Knotts, Tim Conway, and Bill Bixby. The Apple Dumpling gang follows three mischievous orphan children who are tossed into the hands of a stubborn bachelor. These children somehow come across two unskilled thieves and the story continues and you’ll laugh through to the very end.
5.) The Black Cauldron – Pigs who can see the future, a brave young boy, a beautiful princess, the Horned King, and a magic cauldron all come together to create a suspenseful fantasy. A legendary movie, but one no one watched. The movie is old but no less fantastic. The movie follows the brave young man, Taran and his crew to attempt to stop the Black Cauldron’s evil powers as well as the Horned King possessing them.
